PhD Positions

We offer several projects in the field of fundamental experimental physics research. Topics will be related to Penning trap techniques, cryogenic engineering, radio-frequency electronics, low-noise electronics, and beamlines.

Ulmer Fundamental Symmetries Laboratory

Research Field

Our research focusses on ultra-high precision comparisons of the fundamental properties of protons and antiprotons. The experiment is based on the spectroscopy of single particles stored in and advanced cryogenic Penning trap system.

Job Description

Job category: RIKEN Postdoctoral Researcher.
Candidates are expected to perform independentl and dedicated work on the further development and operation of an advanced cryogenic Penning trap experiment. 

Qualification

We are seeking for PhD holders who have expertise in mechanical engineering, cryogenic engineering, low-noise electronics, superconducting electronics, Penning traps, beam-lines, ultra-high vacuum techniques, FEM simulations, potential-theory calculations etc.... Technical skills are welcome.  

Employment Location

The experiment is developed at the antiproton decelerator facility of CERN in Geneva/Switzerland. Applicants will be permanently located there.

Salary

Full-time position with an annually renewable contract upon evaluation. Salary will be based on qualification and experience. Commuting and housing allowances, as well as social insurance will be provided. Days off are weekends, public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29-Jan. 3) and RIKEN Foundation Day. These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
